Not too del.icio.us…

For whatever reason, I didn’t have the my del.icio.us and post to del.icio.us favorites/bookmarks added at home, which is where I sit writing this post. I have gotten used to having those two handy buttons situated nicely on my browser toolbar. I figured, that’s fine, I’ll just go to del.icio.us and find the download that adds that to my favorites/bookmarks.

The interesting thing is that its just not that easy. I landed on my del.icio.us page and took a look around. I clicked through a few of the links that I thought might land me where I needed to be. I then figured I would just go to del.icio.us and it would be right there for me to click on. Nope.

I finally did the last thing that I thought I would have to do. I went to Google and searched for it. Well, I didn’t have much luck there, but I did find some pretty interesting things in my search.

Here is the run-down of three of the cooler things that I found:

  • del.icio.us direc.tor, which is described as a prototype for an alternative web-based rich UI for del.icio.us. I got an error while trying to use my del.icio.us page, but the static demo was very cool stuff.
  • del.icio.us post Firefox Add-on, which is very close to what I have on my machine but even better in that I don’t have to navigate away from the current page to post the link to my del.icio.us
  • I found these great instructions on how to automatically post daily links from del.icio.us to WordPress. This one may give me fits, but I have to try it out.

I never found those original links, but with the tools I did find, I am far better off. I still think del.icio.us should make those links something that is easy to get to. I’m off to hook up that del.icio.us to WordPress deal.

An Edited Hello World!

Well, I finally did it. The decision was tough. Textpattern or Wordpress? After what I admit to be a small amount of research but some good conversation about the pros and cons of both, I made the decision to go Wordpress. I reserve the right to change my mind later, although I rarely do that.

It’s now time to learn. That is precisely what this is about for me. Here are some of the things that I hope to learn about:

  • How and what to blog about.
  • Either where to find the best theme for this site or how to create it.
  • Wordpress in general…what’s a post slug? Looks like an opportunity to RTFM who’s cleaner cousin is RTM, which I never do.
  • How to create good validated XHTML and CSS.
  • How to best integrate with flickr, del.icio.us, and other cool stuff I might find and want to integrate into the site.
  • How to use this site as a collaboration tool with friends and coworkers.
  • How to properly categorize posts, etc. I need to come up with the categories that I think will work best.
  • How to blog from the Cingular 8125, which seems like it’s as easy as going to the site and typing away.

I’m sure that there will be other things that I failed to mention above. I welcome those of you that wish to add something that you feel might be worthwhile for me to learn about to leave a comment to that affect.

Thanks in advance for reading, being patient, and helping an admitted newbie in this new world of his.
